Self-confidence is a confounding thing to write.
If a character is bullish on the trait or if he is woefully lean on it, the confidence game is easy to capture. (No surprise there. Extremes are usually easy to pull off on paper.)
However, if self-confidence is either slowly crumbling or, worse yet, slowly being rebuilt it is a pain to express respectfully.
Hadn’t realized this until my Cozy’s sleuth arrived on the scene. Her psyche is a hardhat construction zone, and she is an exhausting dame to write.
