There is no trauma behind my panic.
No horrific life experience, no childhood cruelty, no repressed memory scratching and clawing to get out. There is nothing but miswiring and misfiring in my brain to blame for my embarrassing terror.
Of course, this is a blessing. But what few understand is that it’s also a curse.
Victims are “forgiven” their fear.
We are not. We are declared weak, attention-starved or fools.
Just because we didn’t suffer before doesn’t mean we’re not suffering now.
